ObjectiveTo analyze the rules of Traditional Chinese Medicine treatment based on syndrome differentiation of functional dyspepsia (FD) by using data mining technique. MethodsLiterature related to FD syndrome differentiation classification and treatment based on syndrome differentiation recorded in the China National Knowledge Infrastructure, VIP, China Biology Medicine disc, Wanfang Database Knowledge Service Platform was retrieved. Information concerning the distribution of Traditional Chinese Medicine syndromes, compositions of prescriptions, etc., were extracted from the literature. After normalized process and categorization, the IBM SPSS Statistics 22.0 software was used to perform frequency statistics on syndrome patterns, syndrome elements, and Traditional Chinese Medicines, and association rule analysis was performed on high-frequency drugs by using the IBM SPSS Modeler 18.0 software. ResultsA total of 18 FD Traditional Chinese Medicine syndrome patterns were obtained, among which the main syndrome patterns contained stagnation of liver qi and deficiency in spleen, hypofunction of spleen and stomach, disharmony between liver and stomach, dampness-heat in spleen and stomach, simultaneous occurrence of cold and heat syndromes. The commonly used Traditional Chinese Medicines of stagnation of liver qi and deficiency in spleen included Radix bupleuri and Atractylodes macrocephala, etc., and the highest confidence drug-pair was Paeoniae radix alba-Radix bupleuri. The commonly used Traditional Chinese Medicines of hypofunction of spleen and stomach were licorice and Atractylodes macrocephala, etc., and the highest confidence drug-pair was Poria cocos-Atractylodes macrocephala. The commonly used Traditional Chinese Medicines of disharmony between liver and stomach were Radix bupleuri and Paeoniae radix alba, etc., and the highest confidence drug-pair was Paeoniae radix alba-Radix bupleuri. The commonly used Traditional Chinese Medicines of dampness-heat in spleen and stomach were Pinellia ternata and Magnolia officinalis, etc., and the highest confidence drug-pair was Amomum kravanh-Coicis semen. The commonly used Traditional Chinese Medicines of simultaneous occurrence of cold and heat syndromes were Pinellia ternata, Coptidis rhizoma, and licorice, etc., and drug-pair with 100% confidence and >90% support degree was licorice-Pinellia ternata. ConclusionTraditional Chinese Medicine syndrome differentiation of FD is mainly stagnation of liver qi and deficiency in spleen, hypofunction of spleen and stomach, disharmony between liver and stomach, dampness-heat in spleen and stomach, simultaneous occurrence of cold and heat syndromes, as well as disease locations are mainly in stomach, which are closely related to spleen and liver; moreover, pathogenic syndrome elements are mainly qi stagnation and qi deficiency, and high-frequency medications of Traditional Chinese Medicine treatment based on syndrome differentiation of FD are Atractylodes macrocephala, Radix bupleuri, Paeoniae radix alba, Poria cocos, and licorice, etc., as well as drug effects are mainly invigorating spleen and replenishing qi, and regulating qi flow to subside pain.
