In December 2023, General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and President of the People's Republic of China Xi Jinping paid a state visit to the Socialist Republic of Vietnam (hereinafter referred to as Vietnam), during which both sides agreed to build a community with a shared future that carries with strategic significance, laying a new foundation for cooperation in various fields between China and Vietnam. In this context, cross⁃border medical and healthcare cooperation has become an important area for deepening cooperation between China and Vietnam. Dongxing, China and Mong Cai, Vietnam are adjacent to each other and have significant geographical advantages. Dongxing, China and Mong Cai, Vietnam can become an important “strategic connection point” for cross⁃border medical and healthcare cooperation between China and Vietnam. At present, both sides have improved quality of medical services and public health safety at frontiers of the two countries by signing relevant agreements on cross⁃border medical and healthcare cooperation, building a cross⁃border medical rescue service model, building the brand of “China⁃Vietnam friendship hospital”, and building the “strategic connection point” of China⁃Vietnam cross⁃border medical and healthcare cooperation, etc. However, there are still some problems in the cross⁃border medical and healthcare cooperation between Dongxing, China and Mong Cai, Vietnam, such as poor policy coordination and referral process, and limited cross⁃border medical service fields. This study aims to summarize the current status of cross⁃border medical and healthcare cooperation between Dongxing, China and Mong Cai, Vietnam, analyze problems existing in the current cooperation model, and to put forward suggestions for improvement.
