ObjectiveTo explore the clinical effect of acupuncture for Zhuang Medicine Qihuan acupoint for the treatment of cervical spondylotic radiculopathy in qi stagnation and blood stasis type. MethodsA total of 60 patients with cervical spondylotic radiculopathy in qi stagnation and blood stasis type were selected as the research subjects, and they were randomly divided into acupuncture for Zhuang Medicine Qihuan acupoint group or routine acupuncture group, with 30 cases in each group. Patients in the routine acupuncture group received routine acupuncture for treatment, and the acupuncture for Zhuang Medicine Qihuan acupoint group employed acupuncture for Zhuang Medicine Qihuan acupoint combined with routine acupuncture therapy. Both groups received treatment for 2 weeks. The pre- and post-treatment Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) score for pain, Yasuhisa Tanaka symptom scale score, clinical effect, and the occurrence of adverse reactions during treatment were compared between patients of the two groups. ResultsThere were statistically significant differences in VAS score for pain and Yasuhisa Tanaka symptom scale score between the two groups (P<0.05). Both groups exhibited a tendency of changes of VAS score for pain and Yasuhisa Tanaka symptom scale score over time (P<0.05), therein, after the first treatment, 1 and 2 weeks of treatment, patients of the acupuncture for Zhuang Medicine Qihuan acupoint group obtained a lower VAS score for pain, whereas a higher Yasuhisa Tanaka symptom scale score as compared with the routine acupuncture group (P<0.05). The total effective rate of the acupuncture for Zhuang Medicine Qihuan acupoint group was higher than that of the routine acupuncture group (93.33% vs. 70.00%, P<0.05). No adverse reactions of both groups during treatment occurred. ConclusionAcupuncture for Zhuang Medicine Qihuan acupoint combined with routine acupuncture for the treatment of cervical spondylotic radiculopathy in qi stagnation and blood stasis type exerts significant efficacy, which can effectively ameliorate patients′ pain symptom and cervical function, exerting superior effects to single routine acupuncture therapy, with a relatively high safety.
